The 2015 season isn’t even in the books yet, but Tom Brady is already thinking about Super Bowl LI in Houston.
He can’t escape it, actually, since he has a countdown clock reminding him of next year’s game in his gym.
“Tommy doesn’t just play football. Tommy is a football player,” Brady’s father, Tom Brady Sr., said in an interview with CSNNE. “This is not a July to January or February endeavor for him. He loves two-a-days that started for him a week ago, that will be two-a-days from Jan. 20 to the next February. He’s got a countdown clock in his gym that is now ticking to … next year’s Super Bowl.”
That’s some reminder hanging over his head.
Brady’s Patriots were ousted from the playoffs when the Broncos’ ferocious defense disrupted what is normally an efficient and powerful New England attack. That loss robbed Brady of a chance of playing in a Super Bowl near where he grew up.
But it sounds like he’s got some time to get back to the Super Bowl, because his dad didn’t think Brady, 38, is close to retiring.
“I don’t know where Father Time is on this deal, but (Tom) seems to be winning the battle at this point in time,” Brady Sr., said.
“God-willing Tommy’s going to play eight more years,” he added.
When asked about DeflateGate, Brady Sr., indicated that it seemed to be tougher on him than it was on his son. And he also questioned the motivation behind the scandal.
“The reality of this thing, what has occurred this last year is not at all about PSI,” Brady Sr. said. “It’s not about PSI. It’s about Patriots success and it’s about issues that have nothing to do with Tommy. That was kind of obvious right from the very beginning.”
“If we were 8-8 every year, nobody would resent us,” he added.
